Courtenay  &

Parent chat

A proposal: a WhatsApp community for Courtenay families, run by parents. Nothing is set up yet.

The groups

One WhatsApp community with a few groups. It costs nothing and doesn’t replace messages from the school.

  • Avisos / Announcements: meetings and news from the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC), in English and Spanish. Only admins post.
  • Charla Courtenay / Courtenay Chat: an optional chat for the whole school.
  • Generación 20XX / Class of 20XX: one group per grade, named for the year the class finishes 8th grade, so the name stays the same every year.
  • Salón N / Room N: for a classroom whose families want their own group.

Finding other families

In each group you can add a short tag next to your name, such as “Mateo’s mom”. It’s optional and shows only in that group. To reach a family, ask in the group.

Privacy and rules

  • Other parents in a group can see your phone number.
  • Admins approve everyone who joins.
  • No photos of another child without permission.
  • No private matters about students, families or staff.
  • No sales or political campaigning.

Who runs it

The officers of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) would be the admins, and the PAC Chair would own the community. Each grade group would also have a parent admin. The school doesn’t run or watch the groups.

Tell us what you think

Courtenay’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is proposing a WhatsApp community for Courtenay families: news and meetings from the parent councils, a chat for each grade, and an easy way to arrange playdates. Parent volunteers would run it, not the school. Nothing is set up yet, so tell us what you think.

The full proposal is on our Councils page.
